Is there a replacement for a shoulder?

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

Arthritis of the shoulder is less common since it is not a weight bearing joint. When it does occur, it usually responds to conservative care. If there is arthritis on X-ray and limiting pain after medical care, then the shoulder can be replaced. It remains controversial as to whether only the ball or ball and socket need to be replaced in order to have a good result.
